However, I don’t think it’s worth significantly changing your travel behavior just to achieve this status. Why? Airlines can change the qualifying rules for lifetime elite status at any time, even if you’ve been working towards it for 20 years. The benefits of elite status can also change rapidly.

Furthermore, while the airline industry is currently more stable than it was decades ago, there is still a risk of airlines going bankrupt or merging.

How Delta's Million-Mile Program Compares to Other Programs

Compared to American and United, I find Delta's million-mile program to be mid-tier in value. American’s million-mile program is the least favorable, as you can only achieve a maximum of Executive Platinum status, which requires 5 million lifetime miles (the same requirement for Delta 360). United's million-mile program is the best, as you can not only earn Lifetime Global Services status but also have the ability to gift elite status to a traveling companion.

With the updates in 2024 to Delta's lifetime elite status program, I feel Delta is becoming more comparable to United than American, but it’s still not quite perfect.
